AR15 accessories… at Wal Mart.

Overheard from the store manager, “Yeah, we’re hoping to get some Sig and DPMS carbines in here next week. We can’t keep ‘em in stock.”

We’re winning.

Yep. My local Wal Mart sells ARs, right next to the .22LR plinkers and shotguns.

    We’re winning indeed.

They’re not selling the guns themselves, are they? Not that I object*, but I thought that Wal-Mart corporate ordered all stores to sell nothing “bigger” than pellet guns a few years back.

    * = OTOH, do YOU feel comfortable with some of the Wal-Mart People being armed? :-)

Yes, residents can buy the weapons right there in the store. Fill out your ATF 4473, pay your money and take it home.
Not only that, but we were all walking around the store, openly carrying firearms, and nobody batted an eye.

Hmm, must be a regional thing. Who’d a thought that Wal-Marts in California would treat guns differently than Wal-Marts in Louisiana.

About 6-7 years ago corporate decided to de-emphasize firearms and related items in their stores. I was talking to a long time employee who told me that Sam Walton considered them loss leaders because they drew men into the stores and even if they didn’t buy guns or ammo, they’d buy other stuff that had a higher profit margin. He died and corporate management took over. They didn’t like loss leaders, so guns, ammo, and accessories went away. I got some really good cleaning and other accessories dirt cheap back then. About a year or so ago, management reconsidered that decision and decided that there was money in firearms. I’d guess that they looked at the sales trends in firearms and ammunition after Obama got into office and saw money being made. As a result, they stock a lot more ammunition and accessories. Stores in states like CA, MA, IL, NJ, etc., might not sell guns, but that’s not a surprise. Stores in more gun friendly states are starting to stock long guns again.

I’d wager that just about everything in California is treated differently than it is in Louisiana.

I remember back when one of our local Walmart stores closed out its firearms — there was a Springfield “Loaded” M1A that was marked down to $999 the last time I saw it – I’m not sure what it actually sold for because it wasn’t a store that I visited more than every other week or so and I wasn’t the one who took it home (cash was tight back then).

Yep. Out here in Free America Wal-Marts are selling Colt LE6920s, S&W M&P 15s, and DPMS rifles along with various .22 ARs. Oh, and the rifles are coming with standard capacity mags, not 5 or 10 rounders.
