Prayers And Good Thoughts Needed…

… for the family and colleagues of a paramedic in northern California today.

I will say no more now, as I believe the story has not yet hit the news.

What I will say is that this profession exacts an emotional toll on everyone in it, and for some that toll is too much to pay.

My first boss in EMS had a saying, “Patients, partners and profits… in that order. If you take care of the first two, the third will take care of itself.”

Of course, he’s out of business now, so the statement may not be valid in a business sense.

But it makes sense in all the ways that are most important.

Take care of your partners, and be there for them when you can.

Life is fleeting.

I am an EMT in San Francisco, we have had 2 decent ambulance wrecks in the last 5 weeks, and now you drop this tease of a story?? I can’t find anything in the news about it. What county in NorCal? At least tell me it isn’t San Francisco. Kinda messed up to get people all keyed up without letting them off the hook.  an edit would be appreciated…

It’s not an ambulance crash, and it didn’t happen in San Francisco, although I am told that the paramedic is hospitalized there now. The paramedic’s co-workers had the unpleasant duty of responding to the call.
I’m sure you understand that I can’t say more without fear of revealing the medic’s identity.
Just look out for your partners, and try to get them help if they show signs of PTSD or depression.

Thank you sir. And yes now I get what you are talking about, and it is obviously better to be sensitive. I apologize for the bark. Good thoughts..

Always room on my prayer list, brother.  I know  few former EMTs who left the work after suffering multiple heartbreak. I lack the intestinal fortitude for the calling, and respect those who can do it.
