Would You Have Your Chest Massaged By a Porn Star?

Judge not, that ye be not judged. ~ Matthew 7:1

The EMS forums are currently all atwitter with the issue of a former pornographic actress volunteering at her local rescue squad.

Seems Tracy Rolan, before she decided to become an EMT, showed off her hoo ha (including how well it works) in over 200 adult films from 2004-2010, under the stage name Harmony Rose.

Now it seems that public officials and a bunch of self-appointed EMS hall monitors are scandalized and shocked  – shocked, I tell you! – that such a thing could happen. I mean, this will be the end of our profession! How will we ever overcome the stigma?

I'll weigh in on the matter, however briefly:

EMT's do quite a good job of harming the public perception of EMS WHILE THEY'RE ON DUTY without us obsessing over how they act off-duty, on their blogs, or God forbid, in whatever career they had before they got into EMS.

One of the best medics I ever trained had felony convictions for armed robbery, drug possession, resisting arrest and five counts of grand theft auto, perpetrated in the midst of a multi-state crime spree.

He was a 17-year-old kid with a drug habit and undiagnosed manic-depressive disorder at the time. When he applied for his paramedic exam, seems the only ones who thought he deserved a second chance were me, his parole officer, the prosecuting attorney (by then a judge), and NREMT.

I'd still trust him with my life, and he's a sterling ambassador for our profession. EMS helped him turn his life around.

I wonder if the nursing profession is gnashing their teeth because Nina Hartley has been working her money maker on-camera for thirty years?

Yes, I do anal. I'm also a registered nurse.

I have a couple of suggestions for those who are scandalized by the fact that a former pornographic actress would dare endure the months of training required to enter the exalted ranks of EMS:

1. Judge the girl by how well she performs as an EMT, not how often she performed before she became one.

2. Look to the way you represent the profession before you worry about someone else.
