Good News For You Kindle Users!

The window to download a free copy of En Route or A Paramedic’s Stories (same book, different titles for the paperback and hardcover, so it’s a moot point in e-books) has been extended until midnight EST, January 17, 2011.

For you Nook, Sony eReader and iPad users,  you can still get your copy here. Just click on your device, and follow the instructions. If you don’t have an eBook device, Barnes and Noble offers a free Nook app for the iPhone, iPad, Android and PC, Amazon offers the Kindle Reader for PC, and Sony offers the Reader for iPhone and Android and PC.

Unless you’re using two tin cans and a long piece of string for a cell phone, or using an abacus for your personal computing, you oughta be able to find a suitable option for reading the Greatest EMS Novel Yet Written. (Peter Canning and Michael Morse aren’t in the promotion, so I’m it by default.)

Now, this is important for you Kindle users: free Kindle downloads will be from January 11-17, 2011. Got that? Try it before then, linky no worky. No word yet if the other devices will be supported during that extra week, but the Kindle will.

I told you here, so please don’t leave comments that there isn’t a Kindle link on January 8th, or you’re still clicking on last week’s post and getting a blank page, mmmkay?

But, just to thwart people who have a 2-week-old post bookmarked and haven’t bothered to read the blog since then, I updated all the old links, too.

I have also been informed that the promotion is only for U.S. customers, unfortunately. However, at least one enterprising Australian reader has discovered that the Nook page accepted a fictitious U.S. address without verification. Far be it from me to suggest you download the book by claiming you live at 100 Wisteria Lane, Beverly Hills, CA 90210, but if that’s what it takes…

And thanks for reading, guys. If you liked the book, drop a review on the Amazon page, and check out some of Kaplan’s other titles!

For the ER Doctors

Most of my non-medical readers will scratch their heads, but the ER docs and nurses will get it:

If you want to get the kind of scores that impress hospital administrators, providing excellent medical care won’t even get you halfway there.

Sponge baths, manicures, ass-kissing and liberal prescription of narcotics might, though.

For You Kindle Users Who Wanted A Free Copy of En Route…

… take heart.

My publisher tells me that their IT gnomes are chained to their workstations back at Kaplan World Headquarters, hard at work on a fix. I have been assured that not only will En Route soon be available for free in Kindle format, they’re even gonna extend the deadline for you to download it. Stay tuned to the blog for the appropriate link when it becomes available.

For those of you who had problems finding the book or keep getting suspended or password-protected pages, you gotta go through the Kaplan link, folks. That’s your “get this shiznit for free” magic portal. If you haven’t managed to download your free copy yet – or one of the other 129 titles Kaplan is offering -  check back on the blog here frequently for a new post with the appropriate link.

If you’re an international reader, I’ve got the fine folks at Kaplan checking on why getting a free download has been problematic for anyone outside the United States, and I expect to have an answer soon.

If you don’t have an e-reader, and all this technology stuff still befuddles you, I’m pretty much certain you’re at least reading this on a personal computer. When the Kindle version becomes available, there is a version of the Kindle Reader for Windows you can install for free on your PC, and download to your heart’s content.

And last but not least, if you’ve checked out the site, you may notice two of my books available with different titles. They’re the same book, folks – the only thing different is the introduction and foreword. When Kaplan released the book in trade paperback format, they changed the title slightly. And yeah, it confuses me just as much as it confuses you.

Hey, I just wrote the darned thing. I don’t know beans about the marketing end…

And hey, thanks for reading!

The Miranda Paradox

Dear Intoxicated, In-Custody Patient,

The nice police officer has already advised you of your right to remain silent.

Now, I beg of you by all that is holy, exercise that right.

Please.

**********

Thus goes one of AD’s axioms of EMS that I like to call the Miranda Paradox: Whenever dealing with an in-custody patient, the ones you wish would talk won’t, and the ones you wish would shut up won’t.

They’re like the Profanity Terminator; they can’t be bargained with, they can’t be reasoned with, they can’t be placated, and they will not shut up – ever! – until they are sober.

From January 4-10, available here for electronic download to your PC, Nook, Kindle, iPad, eReader or other electronic device.

Available for free January 4-10 only!

While you’re there, feel free to browse Kaplan’s other print and electronic titles!

EMS and gun bloggers, readers and fans, please do me the favor of spreading the word by re-posting on your blogs, Twitter and Facebook pages. It’s free for you, but I get a little something in the Double Wide Fund.

Edit: Link now active! For those of you who tried and failed, try it again, please. For those of you who don’t have one of the supported devices, simply go to the Amazon store and download the free Kindle for PC.

Enjoy!
