A Blogiversary, and Free Copies of En Route!

Four years ago, I only had a vague idea of what blogs were. I had never read one.

And then, a friend forwarded me this story from LawDog, with the subject line, “If Kelly were a Texas peace officer…”

I was hooked. I had just published a book, and it struck me that this blog business might be an effective means of publicizing it, and help me polish my writing craft at the same time. And so, on this day in 2006, I put up my first post.

That was four years, 1261 posts, almost 42,000 comments, and over 1.5 million hits ago. Well over 1,000 people visit this blog every day, and I am profoundly grateful for each and every one of you.

It’s been a heckuva ride, people.

**********

It seems fitting that, here on my 4th Blogiversary, I can announce a special deal for my readers, courtesy of the good folks at Kaplan Publishing.

From January 4-10, 2011, Kaplan will offer electronic versions of En Route for free download.

That’s right, FREE electronic versions of my book, downloaded directly to your laptop, netbook, Kindle, Nook, iPad or Sony eReader.

Did I mention that it’s free?

Kaplan is using the promotion to encourage customers to try eBooks and increase awareness of their print titles, so by all means, browse the other available titles while you’re there, and download to your heart’s content.

And please, do me the favor of promoting this on your own blogs, Twitter and Facebook as well. My goal is 4,000 downloads between January 4-10. If we could meet or exceed that, it’d be the berries.

WooHoo!!! But geez, you’re really going to make me wait until Jan 4th?!? Well, I suppose I have been waiting for a few months for my husband to buy it for me, so a few weeks isn’t too bad.

And you have been linked. Too bad I can’t get you to sign the ebook. Guess I’ll have to buy the dead tree version anyway. Maybe I should just have it delivered to you that way you have to come visit ;)
But I’m going to download it so I can read it in the meantime.

    First, that’s really cool.

But… What about those of us who don’t choose to be locked in to a proprietary format? How about an ePub, PDB, PDF, etc?

Andrew, I’m not sure about all the formats they offer, but I do know they have a version of Kindle for PC’s. I don’t own a Kindle, but I regularly download Kindle versions of books from Amazon for reading on my netbook at work.

AD, just downloaded the Nook e-reader, and went to the Barnes & Noble site via the link you posted, and it is not actually for free as of now…. $6.99 and the Amazon link which I checked just to double check in case it worked doesn’t even show a Kindle version. :-( Just thought you should know… I’ll save the link though and if nothing else I’ll probably get a few $ for X-mas and try it then. (by the by, go look at the $$ on Amazon for your book!!)

Samala, read the post again. The free download period starts January 4 and runs through January 10.

Very cool, AD! I’ll download it when the free period starts. I’ve already got it in hard cover, but having it be more portable wouldn’t hurt :)

Happy Anniversary, AD!! Thank you for all the entertaining, heartwarming, thoughtful, hilarious insights into your career and your life. You’re a great writer. I have both your books, and I just shared the e-book link on FB as well. Hope I find you some more fans. Merry Christmas to you and KatieBeth, and everyone you love.

    AD,
    First and foremost, congratulations!
Four years…Wow. And I gotta tell you, I was just getting into the whole blog-reading thing when I found you, and you became an immediate everyday must-read. You’ve made me laugh out loud and cry into my morning coffee more than once. You’re a helluva writer, dude. Keep it up.

    Enough stroking.

I really appreciate the En Route download. I recently bought a paper copy of the original LD&EI (I’m one of those guys that has to do everything in order), and was looking forward to comparing it with En Route. Being an even more recent Kindle owner, this is perfect.
    Thank you.
    Keep ‘em alive,
    Rick

I received a copy of your book for Christmas! Can’t wait to read it.

  • Patrick

Just catching up with my RSS reader, and I think there’s something seriously wrong with the Kaplan feed, AD. Any insight?

  • http://yami990.tumblr.com/ Yamiblue990

will do. posted the link on tumbler in hopes of people seeing it. probably see about sending it to the consumerist as well. i thankyou for allowing us the chance to get the book for free.

  • http://blog.booksontheknob.org/ Karen in TN

Hey, the links don’t go anywhere (well, they do, but it is password protected). And searching Amazon, it doesn’t appear Kaplan even has any books there (did they pull them?). Do you have a new link on getting the book?

  • Anonymous

Karen, the link goes active tomorrow, the first day of the promotion. Try it then.

  • Janfafard

I would love to read your book, but I couldn’t get the links above to work. I did look on Amazon and they did not have a kindle on your book yet. Do you know what time it will be ready today?

  • Earl

The link still doesn’t go anywhere…

  • Yamiblue

the kaplan pages keep coming up as blank. could you please see about correcting it? i’d love to read your book.
