For you EMS Types…

… there’s a new column up on EMS1.

A snippet:

All of this demonstrates two ugly facts about EMS that I suspect have been true since Jesus Christ performed the first successful resuscitation: everyone is an expert about someone else’s call, and EMTs eat their own kind.

Read, enjoy, comment!

I'm not a registered member over there so apparently I can't comment – I figured I'd just comment over here instead.

In my opinion, it's all about anonymity. People on the internet, whether they be bloggers or in forums, are usually posting under another identity. That breeds “nobody knows who I am so I can say whatever I want” idiots. I don't blog under my real identity for privacy reasons. However, that doesn't lead me to say inappropriate things, stir the pot, or step way out of my lane like some of these people do. And I sincerely hope that if I ever did, someone would call me out on it so I would realize what an idiot I'm being.

The basic rule I follow is “If you weren't there, you don't know.” If you heard it from someone who knows someone that works at the same place as the EMT that worked the scene; take the story down by about 5 notches, change the patient's gender, where it happened, and what time of day it was and you might have something that's somewhat close to the original story. And, as Mom always used to say, “If you can't say something nice…don't say anything at all.”

I did join over there so I could leave a comment. Just wish I would have read your comment first Lizzie, as I sat for awhile searching the thesaurus for a word like anonymity ( which I never found). See the internet can be a learning tool when used properly !

Anyway, my comment is on the other sight and for those who haven't taken the time it's another great post by AD.
