News Flash: New Orleans Stinks

It must be really pungent, to overcome the lovely smell of urine, stale beer and rotten food that permeates the French Quarter.

“Kiss her where it smells — take her to New Orleans.”

When the sour smell of the rotting material in the river gets mixed into the miasma, the experience is truly unique to the Big Easy. Late at night … early in the morning? … it's what prompts people to believe in vampires.

Yeah, guess where I'm going on Friday….

You do know that there's more to the city than just Bourbon St, right?

I do. I lived in the area for two years, and I frequented just about every spot except Bourbon Street and the Quarter.

It's a lovely city, but I wouldn't want to live there. Country boy at heart, I guess.

My brother is just the opposite. He loved New Orleans. Katrina didn't touch his condo at all, but so much of his business dried up in the aftermath that he had to relocate to Dallas. He still misses New Orleans.

You know that, I know that, but a whole bunch of them (waves vaguely in the direction of the internet) think we still have bodies floating down Canal Street and wonder why we haven't bounced back instantly from having 80% of our homes rendered unlivable. Hell, it took Miami a decade to recover from Andrew, and tghe storm itself hauled off most of the debris for them… ;-)
