What Has It Got In Its Pocketses, Precious?

View Comments

Since all the other cool kids are doing it, here’s mine:

No ring of power, but enough for what I need.

No ring of power, but enough for what I need.

  • Truck keys, with attached CPR barrier device
  • Smith & Wesson LED flashlight
  • Alaska Knives Bird and Trout model folding knife, a Christmas gift from a good friend
  • Pocket change
  • Carmex lip balm
  • Wallet (in Mossy Oak camo, should I ever feel the need to phone in a credit card purchase from the deer stand)
  • Motorola Razr cell phone
  • Taurus 709 SLIM 9mm, in Don Hume IWB holster.
  • Spare mag, stoked with 115 gr JHPs.

That’s pretty much it every time I step outside the house, except when I’m on duty. The Borg frowns on carrying your heater on the ‘bolance, so mine stays in my personal vehicle, and gets replaced with a pair of trauma shears, a critical care pocket guide, station and truck keys, and various other pocket detritus.

We finally have an answer to the question,
“Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?”

Well, if you consider a Taurus a gun.

For many, sadly, there is nothing to prompt the question.

    Oooh, burn!

Actually, it's a pretty decent weapon.

Nice. I was looking at the Taurus Slim when I lucked into a pretty good deal on a used PM9, but I'm glad to hear other people are getting good results with it. Other than brand/model cell/knife/light it looks remarkably like what I carry. Unfortunately my employer frowns on that sort of thing too. Ah well.

That looks about like my setup too, only I tote the PT145.

The Taurus may be an effective firearm (I love my Bersas) but the most dangerous thing there is that Carmex. Addictive like crack.

That aforementioned pocket lint is why I now carry a S&W J frame .357 with buffalo bore .38 JHP. I used to carry a Bersa, but lint and dust impeded feeding one to many times.

If you carry a pocket semi-auto, I recommend field stripping and quick cleaning daily.

How many of you semi-auto folks carry your pocket piece to the range and shoot it prior to cleaning? How many FtF, or failure to go into battery do you have?

I had a few disheartening experiences and only want to clean my pocket carry gun once or twice a week, hence the revolver. Also, my spare magazine feed lips and or floor plate got entangled with / mangled by my keys more often than was comfortable for something my life may depend upon.

    My 2cworth.

I just bought a Taurus 709 Slim!! Had been using my guy's double stack Taurus 9mm but was too big for my hand.m Funny enough, I thought of you at the gun show last weekend. Not because it was Valentine's Day, but because I saw rifles with pink stocks- isn't that what KB has?
