Here's the Perfect Household Accessory…

… to demonstrate your liberal street cred. If commemorative plates, coins, tee shirts and bumper stickers just aren’t enough for you, I give you… the Obama toilet tank cover!
If you visit the guest bathroom of my former publisher, you will find a photo of John Kerry taped to the underside of his toilet lid.

Somehow, I don’t think the sentiment is the same…

Hat tip to William the Coroner.

I wouldn't post a picture of either Kerry or Obama on the underside of the lid. I would be afraid that everyone would see it and use it for a target. That would get stuff all over the floor and make a mess to clean up.

I'd like to have a case of Obama urinal cakes and put them in every public men's room I went in. I'm sure the ladies could think of something for Pelosi for their place.

I’m the Democrat. I see a tribute by a entrepreneur (smart of them, they could be a Democrat or Republican) to a device that has saved millions of human lives.

Indoor plumbing and the containment and treatment of waste water remains a public health initiative that should be celebrated. It remains a public health issue in the developing world, and is one of the leading causes of pediatric mortality there.

Here in the US, we’ve neglected the maintenance of many of our public utilities (potable water and brown water) because we wanted to save money in the short run, and our elected officials didn’t want to man up, and they hoped that the infrastructure would keep working until they were out of office. They avoided the tough decisions.

I happen to like the President. And having lived and served overseas, I am often fascinated with the cavalier attitude most Americans take in regards to our electoral system.

We hover around a 50% registered voter (not overall) participation rate in federal elections, and even less in state and municipal ballots. We don’t have to brave IEDs, gunfire, kidnapping, etc. to make it to the polls. And yet, it is much easier for most of us to whine than it is for us to become involved in those issues in our community.

You don’t like the President, or any other elected official, what did you do to make sure that a better result took place? And voting is only the first step, not the last one. Did you decide to run? Did you volunteer to speak to your neighbors or complete strangers on behalf of a candidate? Do you regularly contact your elected officials to let them know what you think? If you didn’t you are the equivalent of the 800 pound man in the house who isn’t sure how he became so fat. You are the person who calls for 911 to complain about abdominal pain that started 3 years ago.

We take it for granted that in the Unite States of America there is a peaceful transition of power every 4-8 years, and the losing group isn’t rounded up and shot. We went into Iraq thinking that the citizens would want our style of democracy, but in reality there was so much residual anger and distrust, that no one group is willing to let another group run the country in the name of all the people. And based upon what has happened there, their fears are correct. I am grateful to G-d that I live in a nation where my neighbor on one side can be a Republican and on the other side I have a Libertarian. We have yet to go murder each other over politics.

You should all go out and buy one of your neighbors or coworkers who is a Democrat a beer. And the two of you should celebrate what an amazing nation this is. If this were the Middle East, Africa, the Near East, China, many Asian Nations, the Soviet Republics, South America, or Russia, the government would know who you were, and you would be given the opportunity to assist the authorities in their investigation.

Stop the whining and do something to make this nation better if you don’t like it. May G-d continue to bless the United States of America.

    Thanks for the comment, Gordo.

Even if it was off-base and incomprehensible.

    Ambulance Driver,

I love your posts, and I applaud the thought that goes into them. You are a gifted writer. It is obvious that you care not only about your fellow man, but that your altruism extends not just to your chosen profession, but also to your involvement in teaching the next generation of medics. And I can tell that as tough as you might like to seem, there is a a little girl who knows how to make her daddy jump through hoops. So I enjoy the author, love the writing, but disagree with the responses to your posts.

I happen to think the President is doing a fine job. He inherited a nation that should have been on a wartime economy but wasn’t because the elected federal officials didn’t have the guts to admit that they needed to do so. We spent money we didn’t have. If you want to fight a war, you must cut spending somewhere else. We didn’t. The cost of getting a gallon of fuel to the troops in Afghanistan raises the price to close to $400 a gallon, for something that retails for about $2.50.

Since I have been of voting age we’ve failed to force our federal officials to address the issue of the costs of Social Security. We’ve also failed to force them to account for the wise use of our tax dollars in Medicare and Medicaid.

Firefighters and medics are people who enjoy taking active control of situations to make them better. We are result oriented people. And yet when I look at the responses to your original post, they strike me as whiny, and worse, uniformed.

Our nations asks us to pay our taxes and serve when called upon in a time of war. Otherwise we are very free to go about our daily routine largely unhindered.

I think the President is addressing issues that have been largely left alone by those on the right and left side of the aisle because they were political suicide for officials who are reelected every 2-6 years. This man is well aware that he will serve for 4 years, and possibly 8. He actually has a time limit for accomplishing his goals.

I think statements like, “I’d piss on the lid”, although humorous, do little to advance the cause of the USA.

And if you think these rants online are something, can you imagine what it is like being the only liberal on duty, not just at my station, but on any of the shifts. I now step off my soapbox.

We got my Dad the Obama Chia Pet (determined look) for Father's Day and it has brought him untold happiness because of his new watering technique, which may or may not involve something you would do in a toilet covered by the Obama seat cover. Love the new blog!
