Barack Hussein Obama…

View Comments

…44th President of the United States.

Whether you voted for the man or not…

…whether you think his election heralds the change our country needs, or the ultimate triumph of style over substance…

…whether you agree with his policies, or not…

…he’s our President now.

And it’s time to stop bitching and whining and support our President.

No, I didn’t vote for the man. His views are polar opposites from my own. When he does something I don’t approve of, I’m going to rail about it publicly, but respectfully. I’m going to give him a chance to get it right, and when or if he does, I will be just as effusive in my praise as I am vocal in my criticism when he gets it wrong.

And for my fellow bitter clingers to religion and guns who might ask, “Why give him a chance that the left never gave George Bush?”

I’d ask that you consider whether you really want to model your behavior after the more strident sufferers of Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Come on now. Be better Americans than that.

We owe at least that to the office, if not the man.

“Who determines what is right? Does it come down to the majority, as with any supposed democracy, or will you yourself be the final judge to what is right and wrong?”When it comes to my vote, I determine what it right.Isn’t that the way the sysem is supposed to work?

The things I have read about gun-grabbing and 2nd amendment infringments…They all happened last year, shortly after the election.<>While Bush was still in office and still in power.<>Either way, I agree with my nutjob conspiracy theorist man-toy when I say that I think Obama really will be a good President. I mean, as Rachel H said, he has already taken steps to limit lobbyists influence in DC. The White House just might become an elected representative of the <>people<> now, instead of owing favors and being in the pocket of every big company that can spend enough money.I dunno. I’m not as old and as experienced in the ways of the world as some of you folks are, but that’s my take on it.

You do have the knack for collecting the fringe, don’t you?Good message AD. Please continue to beat that drum.

AwwwwwwwThat is sweet Mulebreath.I am not single.3 cats, 4 hermit crabs, and A husband, boyfriend, and Cabana boy all rolled into one. When we decided to get married our best friend took us both to the range to make sure we could shoot straight. He wouldn’t let us get married until he was sure we were good enough for each other.

The daily intel briefs still occur. The launch codes are supposedly always readily available. There’s secure videoconferencing. And soon, they will be able to correspond with each other via < HREF="http://borepatch.blogspot.com/2009/01/remember-sarah-palins-email.html" REL="nofollow">electronic messaging<>. Perhaps that’s why the pony I was promised hasn’t yet arrived: they’re using it to deliver the mail.

Thank you AD. I am between these two sentiments.<>Rise above it. Do not be what you complain about in others, lest you lose the moral and rational ground on which you stand to make your complaint.<>(thanks to AJ)And: “If you can support the troops but not the war, then I can support the country but not the president.”I have vowed not to go leftard BDS, mainly because I was raised better. But I won’t be stared down, marginalized, stop paying attention, or stop working to make this his only term. I pray fervently that there will be an obvious better choice to the electorate in ’12.

AD, I agree. I will support him so long as he fulfills his duties under the US Constitution, while opposing any policies I disagree with, using the soap, ballot and jury boxes as appropriate. And I will not do it Moonbat/BDS style. I have too much self respect for that.Of course, should he ever step out of his Constitutionally mandated limits, he is no longer our president and all bets are off.My loyalty is to the Constitution, not to any one branch of government and whoever is holding the seat at the moment.“Who determines what is right? Does it come down to the majority, as with any supposed democracy,”We are not (thank the deity of your choice) a democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic where the desires of the majority are limited and moderated by said constitution. “Rule of Law” IOW. Pure democracy is nothing more than legalized mob rule.“or will you yourself be the final judge to what is right and wrong?”Yes. Just as you are for yourself. “If that’s the case, what happened to the vox populi?”Limited in it’s power in this country since 1789. Which is a good thing. See my comments above.

Hear Hear, AD.As a staunch Republican (but one that Huckabee claims isn’t a real one) I have been weary of this whole dreary mess since before Reagan left office. We have way too much work to do to deal with this. Whether or not you agree with him on any given topic, there are intelligent and effective ways to differ. Whining, being a jerk in public, “personality” politics, and all the divisive, obfuscatory BS that has been part and parcel of the functioning of the highest parts of our governmental process for so long are not among them.I also want to point out to arcanai, that that is not how the president is addressed in all cases. He’s addressed as “Mr. President” to his face. He’s referred to as Mr [last name here] when he’s not acting in an official capacity like signing a bill, or President [last name here] when he is. The line between those last two is quite fluid in these modern times. There is no strict federal code for this; the use of the word President for the position is all that’s in the Constitution. The customary usages were all setup by George Washington during that first presidency. The point was that the name itself wasn’t to be glorified, but the office, and even that was to be given short shrift. The disrepect shown to President Bush wasn’t in what they called him. It was in the rest of the text.

“Good on you, AD. I may not agree with the guy or his policies, but wishing him ill is wishing ill on the country, and that’s inexcusable…especially for professed patriots.”Thank you for realizing this. I’m not a conservative myself, but I’m not exactly a liberal, either. I’m centrist. I find things that displease me in both parties. This election, I found that the attitudes of one of the people on the Republican ticket scared me shitless. I found that the Democratic candidates were slightly more in line with my views. Slightly. And then I realized that my state was going Democrat no matter what I did, so I voted for the Boston Tea Party (their platform: “Smaller government. No exceptions.”), since, even though they didn’t have much of a chance, at least they hold views very similar to my own. My vote may not have directly influenced the election, but…I didn’t feel comfortable voting for either main party in this election. Hopefully the next election will bring candidates for a main party that I can support. On the day of the inaugeration, I found an attitude held by many wingnut Conservatives that appalled me. As a stunning example, go < HREF="http://foxforum.blogs.foxnews.com/2009/01/20/youdecide_obama_address/all-comments/" REL="nofollow">here<>. Look for the comment by “still a palin girl” (link is there so that you can verify this comment, which I find hard to believe). Here it is: Comment by still a palin girlJanuary 20th, 2009 at 1:06 pmThe whole thing makes me nauseous. When we have war on our soil during his time in office I will at least be able to say, “I didn’t vote for that moron.”Now to me, that looks like she’s HOPING for a war on our soil, so she can say she didn’t vote for Obama. And that’s sickening. Even if she isn’t, she would still use an attack on America as an excuse to tear down our national leadership when we need it most. Here’s the thoughts of some totalfarkers on that comment:Diogenes: queezyweezel: I like the “still a Palin girl” quote: At least when there is war on our soil during his term, I can say ‘I didn’t vote for that moron’.WTF? Is the far right that whacked out? Yes, we are doomed to invasion by a foreign power in the next four years….Um, Who…. Our Navy would decimate any attempted invasion.“I want this country to suffer another 9/11 so I can gloat.”What a nice lady.I think they pretty much called it. A military invasion is pretty much out of the question. We’re still the worlds only megapower. The only attack that has a chance of landing on our soil is a terroristic one, and that is no time to be indulging in partisanship.Did anyone, right after September 11, 2001, say anything as stupid as “At least I didn’t vote for Bush.”? I should sincerely hope not. What we did is rally together as a country, liberals and conservatives alike. And that’s what America should be about. But people like “still a palin girl” aren’t about that. And that horrifies me. Good on you, AD, for reminding me that there are plenty of good people left in this country.(In the interests of neutrality, I should also say that I was disgusted with the moonbat “not my president” leftists, too. It just so happens that conservatives are the ones who lost this election, an so they’re the group with the wingnuts displaying this behavior this time around. If the Republicans win the next election, you’ll see me here in four years decrying this behavior from the left, too.)
