Barack Hussein Obama…

…44th President of the United States.

Whether you voted for the man or not…

…whether you think his election heralds the change our country needs, or the ultimate triumph of style over substance…

…whether you agree with his policies, or not…

…he’s our President now.

And it’s time to stop bitching and whining and support our President.

No, I didn’t vote for the man. His views are polar opposites from my own. When he does something I don’t approve of, I’m going to rail about it publicly, but respectfully. I’m going to give him a chance to get it right, and when or if he does, I will be just as effusive in my praise as I am vocal in my criticism when he gets it wrong.

And for my fellow bitter clingers to religion and guns who might ask, “Why give him a chance that the left never gave George Bush?”

I’d ask that you consider whether you really want to model your behavior after the more strident sufferers of Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Come on now. Be better Americans than that.

We owe at least that to the office, if not the man.

like many others here, i am terrified for our country. and i am praying fervently that my fears are unfounded. however, i still feel the need to correct commenter matt m. over the last 8 years, i have been infuriated when the msm has disrespectfully referred to the president as “mr bush”. whether i like the man or not, his title is “president obama” not mr.

If this had been McCain’s inauguration there would have been plenty of rock throwing Che-wearing smelly dirtbag hippies disrupting the festivities.Conservatives don’t do that. We respect the Office of the President.

I’ve voted in 13 presidential elections now. I cannot remember one where personality played a bigger part than in this recent one. Evidently, that is what most people used as a yardstick when deciding whether or not to vote for him.During 53 years I carefully studied each candidate and his record before I cast my vote. To claim that I have been a lifelong conservative Republican would be a lie… I started out as a Democrat just like my parents. As time passed and as I grew, I found myself leaning more and more toward the “right” until now I’m a bit to the right of Ghengis Khan. When the Republican Party was still transporting candidates to the debates in a bus I knew which ones I could not support. John McCain was one of them but just as the media was able to canonize Obama it was equally capable of demonizing any Republicans who might be a serious threat to the messiah. Consequently I was left with an untenable choice: Vote for McCain or just not vote. Then Palin came on the scene and for the first time in all those years I was given a real choice… a slim choice of course, but it was a choice. According to today’s news, the media is still doing everything it can to kill her chances for 2012. They must fear her more than death itself.AD, from what I read in your post, you want us all to be good losers. I don’t know which sports philosopher said it first but it obviously needs to be repeated: ‘Show me a good loser and I’ll show you a loser.’ We lost this election and it’s likely to be tough for a few years but I will not go quietly into that good night. If you or any of your readers, in a fit of magnanimity, want to declare that he is “your” president… go ahead. I consider him a domestic enemy and I’ve sworn on several occasions to protect the Constitution from the likes of him.

Oldfart, I’m not suggesting we be good losers, only that we not be bitter ones. There’s nothing wrong with giving the man an opportunity to actually formulate and implement Presidential policy before we pass judgment on those policies.Like you, I don’t hold out much hope that I’ll agree with many of those policies. But I’m going to give him a chance. And In the meantime, I hope the Republican Party can find it’s way back to actually being, well, <>conservative<> again.

AD, EveryoneI love you all.I am a longterm lurker. I used to be _very_ right wing. I was raised Texas baptist. Then I moved to Austin ;) Please give this president a chance.Speaking as someone more left than Ghandi and the Dhali Llamma. We ALL have bigger things to worry about than taking your guns.I personally can use guns, they are very handy for dealing with two legger varmints. Most people will agree, as long as your safe in your operation of them, its nobody’s business. As for what is Obama going to do? Today he and his team did this:He re-took the oath of office because of yesterdays mis wording. He froze the pay of senior staff. Indefinitely. The house passed a bill that will cut payroll taxes which I believe will help small business retain more employees. He made 4 official calls to major players in the middle east.He meet with the economics team and the pentagon. There should be 3 executive orders tomorrow: close the detainee camp at Guantanamo Bay within a year and establish a process by which the U.S. government figures out what to do with the remaining detainees; IE: They go into the court system that works for everyone else.∙ establish new rules on interrogation methods moving forward;∙ establish new guidelines for the treatment of detainees moving forward. One of my problems with gitmo and torture is they were doing it in the dark. If our Country does something we should be able to stand in the light of day and be proud we did it. Bull****.The man considers us the enemy. He has plainly stated such, and done so repeatedly. Unless we understand likewise, he will trample us to dust.Reporters who try to respect islamic terrorists and get interviews with them… end up with their heads cut off. The islamic extremists (not the peaceful mainstream) consider us to be their enemies. Us not recognizing that does not make them any less likely to kill us – it just makes it easier for them.Obama IS the enemy. We must fight him every step of the way – in congress, in the courts, in the media. Let them hate us, let them call us the enemy. They already do, and our magnanimity will not change that – it’ll just make it easier for them to metaphorically kill us.

Hell, I’m with you. I didn’t vote for the man, and absent any major surprises that will change my mind about him, I won’t be voting for him in four years. But I’m willing to be surprised in the mean time. Let’s see if he can change my mind. If not, I’ll oppose him every bit as actively and vocally as anyone on the far reaches of the right wing. But to call him an Islamic terrorist, or suggest that he’s their plant in the White House, is quite frankly, delusional.Mind the black helicopters, now. They probably have you under surveillance.

Well, I am PROUD to say that I VOTED FOR OBAMA!!!With the choice of Old Coot and Hillbilly Woman – what choice was there?!And I am a gun-owning “hillbilly woman” from Kentucky . . .Even though our Country needs someone with the slightest bit of intelligence to run it (ahem, after dim-wit Bush), the rest of the World also needs a reason to come to respect us again as well.I didn’t agree with any ONE candidate whole-heartedly, but there were FAR FEWER things with which I disagreed with OBAMA on – and the changes that he has made in 2 days are re-affirming as well. All that said, it is funny to see bloggers that I LOVE (ADA, that’s you), and who I will continue to read, so different from me on the political spectrum! Just goes to show, religion and politics should never be discussed among FRIENDS!!!

I call BS! I’ll give him the same respect that they gave Bush.I’ll write more letters urging my reps to stand for conservative values.I will do everything in my limited little corner of the world to advocate the Free Market and capitalism. I will attempt to shed light on every socialist action he or his “team” presents.I will defend the constitution whether he does or not!

I should clarify my “Bull****” post above. I was not intending to imply that Obama is a muslim or terrorist, simply that he has openly declared us the enemy, and pretending that he has not is as dangerous as a journalist going into an islamic terror training camp and expecting to walk out again.I don’t see where there is any room for doubt about his intentions or how he will try to run the country. The things he has said, the things he has done in the past, and the things he has promised to do.I should also clarify that I am not right wing. I think Bush has eroded civil rights quite a bit as well – the “patriot” act and all that. I honestly think that Bush, McCain, and Obama are all on the same side, they just have different opinions about how fast they want to turn this nation communist.

Over his presidency, President Bush took an average of 64 days of vacation per year, or 12 weeks per year.He was on vacation 34% of the Presidency. That’s disturbing. On a different note:The comments in this section actually support the statements made by Obama that when certain people feel misrepresented, they become bitter and cling to their guns and religion.Never has there been an assault on the 2nd amendment to the US Constitution. I do ask everyone to read it before suggesting that owning a fully automatic 30 round clip weapon somehow is defending their family.Great way to get the discussion going Ambulance Driver. we need more discussion on these topics.

<>Never has there been an assault on the 2nd amendment to the US Constitution. I do ask everyone to read it before suggesting that owning a fully automatic 30 round clip weapon somehow is defending their family.<><>“A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”<>Many Supreme Court justices have disagreed about the meaning of this. You have managed to solve it for all time with your anonymous comment. You could have taken credit, maybe won a Nobel Prize, but you didn’t. Perhaps you realize that it isn’t that simple.<>Never has there been an assault on the 2nd amendment<>That is either a lie, or it demonstrates a tremendous ignorance of history. Or do you have some other excuse for this misinformation? If I stated <>Never has there been an assault on the <>FIRST<> amendment<>, would anybody believe me? I hope not, because it is ridiculous. The Supreme Court is kept rather busy, although I think they should do a much better job, deciding cases of potential assaults on different areas of the Constitution, particularly the Bill of Rights.Where in the 2nd Amendment, does it state what limitations are acceptable? The <>well regulated militia<>? But what does that mean? Does it limit <>the right of the people to keep and bear arms<> that <>shall not be infringed<>?Please, Oh Great One, sort this out for us in the comments. Preferably before lunch.

“A well regulated Militia…” was written before the existence of a Uniform Army of the United States. From various sources it seems our founding fathers never intended to have a standing Army, but a volunteer Army to be called up in times of need. the situation changed, but the amendment never did because of the traditions set forth early on.I support and will defend to the death the right of the People to keep and bear arms, but when was the last time someone killed 30 people in a knife attack?Justin in CA

“…but the amendment never did because of the traditions set forth early on…”I’ve never heard the freedom from oppression described as a tradition. Then again, maybe this fits with the description of killing fetuses as family planning.

Jesus, the same debate EVERY time. Well, claiming that you will give Obama the same treatment Bush received implies that either you are as biased or stupid as you claim the “left” are or that perhaps those tactics were appropriate for the “left” to use. Either way its not a great position to have, and not effective in influencing people who are critical thinkers. As to the 2nd Ammendment. It clearly lists out rights, the Supreme Court can handle protecting them. If you think it can’t point the finger at Regan, GHB, and GWB as much as at Clinton and Obama. I see 8 years of Democrat presidents and 20 years of Republican ones. On the brief abortion reference just above, how about everyone who does care about life getting behind a few condoms for stupid teens to PREVENT the problem for a change?

“I’m going to give him a chance to get it right…”Who determines what is right? Does it come down to the majority, as with any supposed democracy, or will you yourself be the final judge to what is right and wrong? If that’s the case, what happened to the vox populi? I admire your willingness to put partisanship aside, as both McCain and Obama had asked us to do. However, I’m worried that you still feel as if only your views are the correct ones, no matter how many other people would disagree with you.I think by “getting it right,” there is no true guage for all Americans, but in your case, I hope he at least does good enough by your standards, whatever they may be. All I ask is that you give the people a chance, too; give Americans the chance to get it right as well.
