Saving Me The Trouble…

…of making her life miserable until she got the message that she needs to get out of EMS, the Stuporvisors fired BP the other day.

And rightfully so.

I’ll post my observations on the whole sad affair in a couple of days, without going into exactly why BP got canned, because I think her sad tale can be an object lesson in the need for realistic expectations when entering EMS.

I’ll do it without compromising her privacy, however.

More to come soon.

No, not that partner of AD’s, who recently got fired for trying to throw her partner under the bus. Oh, well that is completely anonymous, then. :-)

Nah, I’m just not going to detail her transgressions in some pointless career postmortem. She’s gone, and that’s that.I actually feel sorry for her. She is utterly incapable of seeing how she brought this on herself.

You know, I kinda understand exactly what AD is going through here. I’ve had several partners who have been either in the beginning, middle, or terminally self-destructive phases of burn-out. These were all leads, experienced medics, who should have been able to recognize what was happening to them, as they’d seen it all happen to others before them. Some recognized it, got out, and have found careers better suited to their temperament. Others have succeeded in self-destructing their lives, careers, and in some cases families, all with varying degrees of collateral damage. Invariably, those that self-destruct never really hear the countdown timer in the background that the rest of us hear and run away from.

I am DYING to hear this story. I cannot even begin to imagine what BP did to get fired…..but….. I would guess it was something that would cost the Borg some money somehow down the line in either lawyer’s fees or a settlement to a family/survivors……….or both.

Sometimes you’re just glad to see them gone. For a while, I had an utter imbecile as a partner–not only did the elevator not go to the top floor, it never left the lobby. One day he put his pen in his shirt pocket without clicking it closed, resulting in a spot about 1 cm in diameter. He goes to a convenience store, buys a can of hair spray, gets back in the truck with all the windows up, and proceeds to spray <>THE ENTIRE CAN<> on his shirt, <><>without taking it off!<><>Boy was I glad when he was gone! His final straw was having two accidents while on one call: backing into a pole at the hospital, then ignoring the LOW CLEARANCE sign–with warnings from his partner–at the nursing home. So we didn’t do MORE damage, they had to flatten all the tires to get the truck out!

I am only half way through my EMT-B class right now, but nothing I have ever done before career wise has held my interest as much as EMS does. I hope to find out if it really is what I want to do soon, but I am not too worried. I know what it is like to find yourself in a job that does not fit you though. Unfortunatly I need the insurane so I get stuck at my job until I can get into a Paramedic program. Reading your site though AD helps me know more of the reality of what I am getting into. I keep forgetting I need to buy your book to.

I’m totally adding to what KK said:add in all the “They’ll see. I’ll quit, then what with they do with out ME? Last time…blah blah blah.”The holier than thou para god attitude. And yes, some EMTs have it too.I gotta confess, Goodwin, my partner, did not like me at first. I was clumsy and nervous and stood back while trying to get in and be helpful at the same time. I thought he was malicious. Now he likes me and I can’t imagine working with anyone else.
