A Cautionary Tale

We now break from our regularly scheduled snark and quasi-humor to bring you this valuable Public Service Announcement. Bob at The Eagle’s Nest tells us a personal tale of his disquieting glimpse of his own mortality – the frightening specter of The Big C.

I urge any of you who have relatives over the age of fifty to have them read Bob’s tale. It ain’t pleasant, but it could save a life.

Seriously.

Thank you, AD. BTW, born in Opelousas and raised in New Orleans but long gone for many years except to visit frequently, half the fun of your blog is trying to figure out the real road numbers and places. Hah!

Anyone with a first degree relative (parent or sibling) who had colon cancer needs to have that first colonoscopy 10-15 years earlier than the relative’s age at diagnosis. Anyone with 2 first degree relatives shouldn’t even wait that long. Ask your doc. People with more than one less closely related family member with colon cancer needs to discuss this with their doc ASAP as well. 50 is only for folks with NO SYMPTOMS and NO RELATIVES WITH COLON CANCER. Keep nagging. It saves lives.
